Our new build history
1990s new build programme
Our first newbuild programme, launched in the 1990s, targeted the European 5,000 DWT coaster market. Building on our established presence across Northern Europe, the UK, the Mediterranean and the Black Sea, these vessels were deployed on a variety of regional trade routes, transporting diverse cargoes with a primary focus on grain, fertilisers, coal and steel products.
2010s new build programme
The company's pioneering Vectis-class vessels were among the first to incorporate the Groot Crossbow hull concept and highly streamlined hull forms, enabling Ice Class 1A capability with comparatively low engine power and a ducted propeller arrangement.
2020s new build programme
Carisbrooke has signed a contract for six new general cargo vessels at Jiangsu Dajin Heavy Industry. Building on a proven design by Groot Ship Design, Carisbrooke has enhanced the specification by increasing deadweight capacity and improving the engine room layout. The new vessels will gradually replace the K Class fleet and incorporate the latest advances in vessel design and fuel efficiency.
Our Latest New Build Programme
Purpose built sustainable vessels
Carisbrooke Shipping has recently signed a contract for six new general cargo vessels at Jiangsu Dajin Heavy Industry. The shipyard has previously built a series of sister vessels originating from the drawing board of Groot Ship Design; however, in true Carisbrooke style, we have enhanced the design by increasing deadweight capacity and improving the engine room layout.
These vessels will gradually replace our K Class fleet, which have served us reliably for the past 15 years. Advances in vessel design and technology will ensure the newbuildings are more efficient and fully compliant with both current and future regulations.
With an approximate deadweight of 7,000 tonnes, a gross tonnage below 5,000, and a draft of 6.5 metres, the vessels will be ideally suited to European trades. The vessels will be built to Ice Class 1A standards and fitted with an MAN main engine rated at 2,190 kW, achieving a service speed of 10 knots with a consumption of 5.5 tonnes per day.
The first vessel in the series is scheduled for launch in July 2027, with delivery expected in October 2027. Subsequent sister vessels will follow at three-month intervals.
